Roles and Responsibilities:
• Provides care and support to patients before, during and after surgery.
• Functions as an integral member of the surgical team. Interfacing with patients, surgeons, and anesthesia staff.
• Implement the peri-operative plan of care demonstrating knowledge of the responsibilities of the RN pre-operatively, intra-operatively and post-operatively.
• Scrubs (passes instruments, sponges or other items to the surgeon; takes them back after use; prepares sutures; and monitors the sterile field to ensure that there is no contamination) surgical procedures independently.
• Circulates (works outside of the sterile field, bring in equipment or supplies needed during the operation; obtain medications or intravenous solutions; or communicate with family members during the surgery) surgical procedures independently.
• Acts as a first assist of the surgeon (Delivers direct surgical care by assisting physicians, Helps control bleeding, Provides wound exposure)
• Responsible for maintenance, care and use of equipment used, applying principles of asepsis, therapeutic and technical knowledge to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Documents nursing interventions.
• Sits with and monitors patient throughout (before/during/after) the labor
